UPDATE ON THE PRESERVE AT HISTORIC CORNWALL VILLAGE
I. The H&K Group Engineering Department has done a cut & fill analysis to
determine what it will take for the site to balance. Road cuts & grading were
included in the scope of work for this undertaking. This two month project was just completed and will now allow us to refocus on the geotech work that needs to be completed.
II. Heuser Design will begin work in September on revising the sketch plan for the
development, taking into consideration the information gleaned from the cut & fill
analysis. Work will begin on the project Design Standards Manual as well.
III. The H&K Group (H&K) is targeting large national hotel chains to present the detailed information we have assembled for our 300 room destination hotel & water park. We are also targeting the larger national water park operators who work in conjunction with the major hotel chains to maximize their room occupancy rates.
IV. Survey contract has been let to complete the work along Route 322 as requested by PennDOT in their review letter regarding the Traffic Impact Study, and the feature entrance way to the development off Route 322.
V. H&K and their architect have scheduled a visit to the site in mid September to work on design sketches that will create a sense of traveling back in history as drivers pass through the entrance and into The Preserve at Historic Cornwall Village.
VI. Traffic Planning & Design, Inc. has been working towards completing their revisions to the traffic impact study, for resubmission to PennDOT in the not too distant future.
VII. Meetings have been ongoing with the Elizabethtown Area Water Authority and
testing has been done to establish a base water quality level. Discussions have
also been taking place relative to creating an access easement for them to get to
their pump house and to the lake for monthly water testing.
VIII. H&K will be meeting with the Cornwall Municipal Authority in October to
review various alternatives on water & sewer lines and the size & location of the
water storage tanks.
IX. H&K will be initiating a contest to create a name for the newly formed lake (aka
open pit) All local residents will have an opportunity to enter as many names as
they would like for consideration by a panel of judges who were affiliated with the mining operations and can appreciate the history of the iron ore banks over the last two and a half centuries. Prizes will be awarded to the people selecting the top
three names, as ascertained by the judges.
X. H&K will be creating a stand alone website for The Preserve at Historic Cornwall Village with a target finish date by 2011.
