Mr. John B. Haines IV is the Founder and Co-Chairman of the Board of H&K Group, Inc. (H&K), one of the Mid-Atlantic Region’s largest privately owned heavy civil construction and construction materials companies. H&K will celebrate a half-century of business excellence in 2018.
John began forging the framework for Haines & Kibblehouse, Inc. in 1957 when he partnered with close friend, Terry Koch, to form “Haines & Koch,” which was operated as a small excavating company from John’s home in Worcester Township, Pennsylvania. By 1964, John had reconnected with childhood friend, John R. “Jack” Kibblehouse, and together with partners, Lee Detwiler and Harry Budenz, ultimately formed Haines & Kibblehouse, Inc. in 1968. Since this time, John B. Haines’s persona, leadership skills, passion, and gift for communicating the company’s vision, have enabled impressive growth of one of the region’s hallmark family-owned companies.
During his 50-year reign at H&K, John has overseen the company’s business development ventures and external operations; with focus on both the contracting and materials sectors of the company. In recent years, John has seen his role at H&K shift from the uncompromising front man, to broad operational oversight, with a focus on mentoring the company as it transitions into second and third generation family ownership. John has and will continue to take a firm stance on focused, controlled growth, while ensuring that principals upon which the company was founded, remain woven into the fabric of future company growth and holdings. Described by his contemporaries and business associates alike as an open-minded, fair, focused businessman with an uncanny ability to find success, John’s persona has become synonymous with the “H&K” brand.
