The addition of Arcadia University’s ‘Brubacker Hall’ would require a major excavation around an existing 20’ wide spread footer to a pedestrian bridge. In order to install the access road for the new building, the footer had to have 5’ cut off of it while still supporting the bridge. Terra Structures and Earth Engineering worked together to come up with a solution for temporary and permanent stabilization of the structure and soil surrounding it. Soil nails were used to stabilize the footer while it was saw cut. Due to the confined space between the buildings; soil nails were used for the remainder of the wall in conjunction with Anchor ‘Landmark’ block. After completion of the soil nailed wall, a conventional geogrid wall was added.
